What families ask us
How does admissions work?
A family writes or calls, comes to a visit day, then applies with a short form and a page from the student about what they would like to make. The steps are on the admissions page.
When are visit days?
Most Thursdays from October to April. Book one on the visit page, or ask for another morning.
Can we visit before we apply?
Yes. A visit day is part of how families decide, and the student is welcome to come along.
What is a day like?
Seminar and a workshop in the morning, lunch and yard time, then the afternoon for project time. The week page has every hour.
How many students and guides are there?
Eighteen students and two guides, ages 9 to 14, in one mixed-age group.
What do students do if they do not know what to make?
The guides start with what the student already likes and asks about. Most questions begin as a hunch, and the first week of planning is for turning one into a project.
What happens in bad weather?
We text every family before 7 a.m. when ice or storms close the school. On a rainy day the yard time moves to the back room and the workshop.
How does tuition work, and how do we ask about aid?
Tuition depends on days a week. Financial aid is available, and the tuition page says how to apply.
How do the guides talk with families?
A note goes home every Friday, and each family meets with a guide once a term. You can text a guide any day.
When do we hear back?
Offers go out in late March. If a place opens later in the year, we call families on the waiting list in order.
Still have a question?
Write to the office and a guide will answer.
